Dancing Under the Stars is tonight at the Glen Oak Amphitheatre.  B rush up on your ballroom and the country line dancing on Peoria’s only outdoor dance floor featuring big band and country music. Dancing begins at 7 pm and admission is free.  This week will feature Glenn Reader & the Countrymen.

The 2009 edition of the annual CEFCU Jazz Series continues tonight on the Peoria RiverFront with Central Illinois Jazz Orchestra. Don’t miss tonight’s live jazz performance at the CEFCU Center Stage at The Landing from 7:30 – 9:30 pm. The Landing bar will be open to serve beverages.  There is no cost for admission.

The USA Roller Sports 2009 Figure Skating National Championship will be held in the Peoria Civic Center Arena this weekend.  Tickets are  $10 and are available at the Peoria Civic Center Box Office. Children 7 and under are free. Tonight, Pekin Park District’s Movie Under the Stars will feature a free showing of “Flubber” at dusk (approx. 8:45 pm) at Mineral Springs Park. Popcorn & soda will be available for $2.

Unnecessary Farce continues this weekend at the Barn II Dinner Theare.  On Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays, doors open at 6 pm, buffet is at 6:30 pm, and the show is at 8 pm. The Illinois Shakespeare Festival continues this weekend with a presentation of A Midsummers Night’s Dream tonight and Sunday at Ewing Manor in Bloomington beginning at 7:30 pm on both nights. Scapin will be performed Friday at 8 pm and Richard the Third runs Saturday beginning at 8 pm.  There is also a free family-friendly version of Shakespeare’s The Tempest on Saturday beginning at 10 am in the festival courtyard (bring lawn chairs for seating).  This show lasts 45 minutes and is geared toward children 9 years and older.  Although the show is free, reservations are required:  call 390-438-3334 or send an email to make your reservation. Tickets for the evening shows range in price from $16 to $40 and are available online at Ticketmaster.com. Wildlife Prairie State Park presents their Movie Under the Stars with Kung Fu Panda on Friday evening.  Movies are shown under the park’s famous tepee shelter. The fee is $12 per carload. J Scott Homan will perform at the Jukebox Comedy Club this weekend.  He has performed on Comedy Central’s “Premium Blend,”  Showtime and CMT plus the “Bob and Tom Show” and Chicago’s “Mancow.”  Showtimes are Thursday at 8 pm (following the first round of their 8th annual amateur tournament) and Friday and Saturday at 8 pm and 10:30 pm.   Tickets to see his shows are $13 or $12 with cash, except Thursday night’s show and Friday’s late show which are $10.

Rockin for TAPS takes place this Saturday beginning at 5 pm.  The event will feature live music by Mike & Carrie Show and Thirdhand. The 6th Annual Rock The Boat presented by the Peoria Jaycees will be held on Saturday featuring a cruise on the Spirit of Peoria and the band Rachel’s Hippo performing live on the boat.  Boarding begins at 7 pm on the Peoria Riverfront. Proceeds for the event will benefit the  Peoria Chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Tickets are $35 and include beer, wine & light hors d’oeuvres and are available by calling 361-3364,

Dream Center Peoria will host the 8th annual Backpack Peoria event Saturday, which provides 3,500 backpacks full of school supplies to children in the community. St. Thomas Catholic Church, Peoria Heights Congregational Church, St. Ann’s Catholic Church, the Creve Coeur Community Center and Dream Center Peoria will distribute the backpacks from 9am to noon. An Expo will also be held at the Dream Center showcasing Peoria-area organizations, not-for-profits and healthcare professionals. The Youth Music Festival will be at the Glen Oak Amphitheatre from 6:30 – 8:30 pm tonight. The Tazwell County Museum & Educational Center will host a Fine Art Fair this Saturday and Sunday at Riverfront Park in Pekin. Hours are from 10 am to 5 pm both days. Artists from around the area are exhibiting and selling their art, including pottery, jewelry, handmade glass items, paintings, and more. Music will be performed throughout the event, including the Friends of Harmony, who will perform at 2 pm on Sunday. Wine tasting will be available, plus there will also be face painting & sand painting for children. Food vendors will be on site as well.

Peoria Theater and MoWaun Entertainment are proud to host an ’80’s Movie Party this Saturday at 9 pm featuring a Micheal Jackson Tribute complete with Micheal Jackson’s hits and his fantasy film ‘The Wiz’. In their second theater, they’ll feature the classic 80’s movie ‘Goonies’. Tickets are $5 for students & seniors (aged 50 & over) and $6 for adults. Tonight, Willow Knolls 14 will present a 20th Anniversary Special
of history’s most successful off-Broadway musical’s big screen
debut, Forever Plaid, beginning at 7 pm. This is an exclusive
one-night event featuring members of the original cast live from
the red carpet with a live sing-along following the show. The
entire event will be broadcast Live from Los Angeles and will be
introduced by the original cast followed by a pre-taped performance
of the show. The event will conclude with a Live “bouncing ball”
sing-a-long with cast and theatre audiences. Tickets now on sale at

summer musical, Seussical featuring The Cat in the Hat, Horton the

The Peoria Chiefs take on the Great Lakes Loons tonight beginning

high-hooping loops and fancy flying. A hometown favorite, Water
Street, will take the stage after the preview event. Admission is

Flying D’Rito Brothers (pop) will perform at the Contemporary Art
Center’s Live at the Five Spot Friday night from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.

Saturday, a combined opening reception will be held at the
Contemporary Art Center from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in the Preston Jackson

Once Upon a Mattress opens Friday night at Corn Stock Theatre. The
musical version of the Princess and the Pea, this delightful comedy
tells the story of Princess Fred and the trials she goes through to

Summer Serenades welcomes New Odyssey with 3 guys and 30

allowed.

On Saturday, the Peoria Pirates take on the Mahoning Valley
Thunder at 7 pm at the Peoria Civic Center (Carver) Arena. Tickets

The Riverfront Market is a great way to start your Saturday

The 2009 Prairie Air Show is this Saturday & Sunday at the General
Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport . Gates open at 8 am
and close at 6 pm both days. The feature show begins at
approximately 11 am and is over at 4 pm (subject to change).
Tickets are $18 for adults and $10 for children for a 2 day pass or
$12 for adults and $7 for children in advance for a 1 day ticket.

The Old Time Folk and Country Jam takes place Sunday at Forest Park

The Mackinaw Valley Vineyard Art & Wine Festival is Sunday from

Get Yo Laff On with host Kevin Williams from Last Comic Standing

The movie Wizard of Oz will be shown Friday under Wildlife Prairie
State Park’s famous tepee shelter. The fee is $12 per carload.

The Clonmel Ireland Marching Band will be visiting Peoria from
Ireland and will perform with the Peoria Municipal Band at the Glen
Oak Amphitheatre beginning at 6:30 pm on Friday. The band is made
up of 100 members who range in age from 13-22.

The West Peoria 40th annual Fourth of July Parade will also feature
the Peoria Sister City Clonmel Ireland Marching Band on Saturday
morning. The parade begins at 10 am at the corner of Rohmann &
Sterling. Then, join the Moss-Bradley Residential Association’s
Annual 4th of July Lawn Concert & Celebration beginning at 12:30 pm
at Peoria Historical Society’s Pettengil-Morron House located at
1212 West Moss Ave. There will be a bike parade beginning at 1 pm,
the Peoria Pops Orchestra Concert begins at 1:30 pm and there will
also be pony rides & toys for the kids. There is no fee to attend.

On Friday, the Peoria Pirates take on the Quad City Steamwheelers
at 6 pm at the Peoria Civic Center (Carver) Arena. Tickets range
from $8 to $60 and season tickets including the Pirates “Ticket

As part of the Methodist Play & Stay for Independence Day weekend,
Yonder Mountain String Band will perform Friday on the CEFCU Center
Stage on the Peoria Riverfront beginning at 8 pm. Tickets are $20

Preston Jackson & Friends performs at the Contemporary Art Center
‘s Live at the Five Spot Friday night from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Tickets

Also on Friday, the Contemporary Art Center presents Salsa at CAC,
a Latin Dance Latin dance lesson and open dancing from 8:30-12:30
pm. The dance lesson runs from 8:30-9:30 pm and open dancing is

is $3 CAC members and $6 non-members.

Friday night is the annual Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular
at the Glen Oak Park Amphitheatre. The event kicks off at 4 pm with
PPD Explosion Cheer Team, Community Children’s Theatre and Great
Expectations Show Chorus, followed by more musical entertainment
until 8 pm when the Peoria Municipal Band will perform patriotic
favorites. The fireworks will begin at dusk. For more information,

On Saturday, celebrate the 4th with the Red, White & Boom/Sky
Concert ’09, the annual Independence Day celebration and fireworks
display set to music at Peoria ‘s Downtown Riverfront. Enjoy food,

A great way to start your Saturday morning this 4th of July is the
local RiverFront Market offering fresh produce, local meats
cheeses, breads and more from 8 am – noon. There’s also pottery,
blown glass, jewelry, wood turned items, candles, soaps and more
all handcrafted by local artists plus music and food

Also on Saturday, the Peoria Chiefs take on the Beloit Snappers

The Old Time Folk and Country Jam takes place Sunday at Forest
Park Nature Center from 3:30 – 5 pm. Meet other musicians and learn

The Peoria Municipal Band will perform Sunday at 7:30 pm within the
Glen Oak Amphitheater. There are park benches or you can bring your
own lawn chairs and blankets. The concert is free and open to
